Abstract:
This study aimed to understand and analyze, from the perspective of women in rehabilitation and penitentiary staff, the nursing care provided at the Center for Female Reeducation Maria Júlia Maranhão. The research was developed with the women in reeducation and the penitentiary staff from the mentioned institution, located in the city of João Pessoa. Data collection occurred from June this year. The instrument used for data collection was a semi-structured interview guide, the type guided from the research objectives. The method used was the Collective Subject Discourse proposed by Lefèvre and Lefèvre (2005). The data were analyzed under the relevant literature about the theme. The results showed the importance of nursing in the prison setting, both in view of prison guards and perception of women in rehabilitation. However, weaknesses were identified, as the reduced number of nursing professionals, as well as the scarcity of resources and inputs to the process of work of the nursing staff. In general, the findings of this research conclude that it is necessary that the State guarantees the right to health to women in rehabilitation, considering that this is a lawful act, broadly supported by the documentary bases of the governing the prison health, and in this sense, nursing occupies important space. Thus, we hope this research reaches the competent bodies, and that they can be sensitive to the data described and discussed, so that, in time, can provide qualified assistance to women in rehabilitation and the penitentiary staff, for the growing struggle to ensure the dignity and citizenship in prisons.
