Adolescence is a period considered the development of good eating habits , physical activity and
the maintaining appropriate weight are essential. A healthy lifestyle when started at young ages,
it tends to persist throughout life, avoiding the emergence of chronic diseases, like high blood
pressure (HBP), which constitutes a major public health problem. The main objective was to
investigate the risk factors for hypertension in male adolescents in the city of Cajazeiras - PB. It
was adopted as methodology an exploratory study with a quantitative approach with a sample of
47 students male adolescents from State School Monsignor Constantino Vieira, in the
municipality of Cajazeiras -PB. For data collection, it was applied a questionnaire with objective
questions, and contain as blood pressure (BP), weight and height. As analysis it was used
descriptive statistics. The results revealed that the vast majority of participants were between 16
and 17 years (57.4 %), White (46.8 %) and mixed (48.9 %), and well educated, lived with
parents, who were predominantly married. About the family history of disease that is related to
HBP, the most common was the very HBP (38.3 %), with higher prevalence among their
grandparents . Adolescents frequently practiced physical activity three to five days a week (86.4
%), consumed with low frequency, fruits and vegetables and showed high consumption of pasta,
fried foods and red meat. For health care the frequency who them go to the doctor only when sick
was (87.2 %) and made examinations just when necessary (95.7 %). The PA was among
borderline or high (53.2 %) , most were with height and weight appropriate for age , however, the
prevalence of overweight / obesity among them was considerable ( 17 % ) . It was conclude,
therefore, that there is a need to value the prevention and early detection of risk factors leading to
the development of hypertension among teenagers such as performing continuous monitoring of
these PA, taking advantage of the school environment to make inquiries as to the guidelines and
lifestyle adolescents, by developing these targeted group and their families, as well as lectures
and campaigns as a guide as healthy eating.
