Abstract:
The Pap smear is one or the most appropriate techniques to identify the presence and / or
development of cancer of the cervix, once characterized as the second most common tumor in
women. In this sense health professionals responsible for this procedure must provide a full
and seek assistance to solve potential obstacles in implementing the said examination. This
study aimed to analyze the perception of the users on the cytological examination performed
by male nurses, as well as learn how patients understand the cytological examination, identify
the causes incumbent performing the procedure and list actions that favor the accession of
women to examination. The study presents as field research approach with qualitative.
Segundo the objectives and collection procedures respectively characterized as descriptive
and participatory. The instrument used in the study was a questionnaire and the results were
evaluated with the help of the technical analysis of the Collective Subject Discourse.
Participants in this research fifteen (15) women, users and registered in the Unit Basic Health
Doctor Vital Rolim in the city of Cajazeiras - PB. Most participants had an age range between
40-59 years old, were 40% are married and 80% have low educational level (53, 33% with
Incomplete Elementary), monthly income of up to 1-2 minimum salaries (66, 67%), compared
with the occupation of which, 66, 67% only performed household tasks and 80% of these
women had more than one child. Observed that most women understand the importance of the
cytological examination and performed regularly at least once a year. As the exam for male
nurse, 53, 33% of the women considered as normal, but that is 46, 67% reported an awkward
position. Women also indicated the difficulties in the execution of programs to prevent cancer
of the cervix, as the absence of social and educational activities and delayed delivery of
examinations. In this sense, found obstacles that hindering the work of some professionals,
which falls to prepare, plan and discuss actions that can be put into practice and that can
contribute to the accession of women to the National Program of Integral Attention of
Women's Health.
