Resumen:
The transformations that have occurred in the workplace nowadays significantly interfere with
quality of life of workers, causing a considerable increase in musculoskeletal disorders,
especially RSI / WMSD that are considered the most frequent in this context. The research
aimed to evaluate the effects of the practice of Lian Gong 18 Therapies on Back pain
symptoms in workers. This is a study of type action research with quantitative approach of
descriptive character, developed with workers deposit a distributor of cosmetics and a
department store located in the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba. The sample consisted of 35
employees chosen through a non-probability sampling. The study took place from November
2012 to February 2013, with the ethical and legal apparatus to Resolution 196/96. Data were
collected from two questionnaires: an instrument constructed by the researcher in order to
analyze the socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects and Diagram Corlett to evaluate
complaints of musculoskeletal pain. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed using the
Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 using descriptive statistics
(frequency and simple percentages), being constructed charts in Microsoft Office Excel 2007
version and tables in Microsoft Office Word 2007 version for visual representation. The
results showed that the sample was predominantly male (80.0%), aged between 26 and 33
years (42.9%), single (57.1%) and secondary education (37.1%). The largest number of
workers occupying the post of lecturer and packer (62.9%), working hours in the morning and
afternoon (51.4%) and not perform overtime (51.4%). It was found that subjects mostly do
not exercise (77.1%) and complain of musculoskeletal pain during work activities (71.4%).
Diagram Corlett the largest number of participants reported complaints of one or more body
segments (91.4%) and neck (60.0%), back in the middle and lower third (both 54.2%) and
cervical region (48.5%) were the most affected by pain symptoms, is also found in those
regions where the indices more significant reduction of pain cases: 37.2% reduced neck and
back middle third and cervical occurred one 25.7% reduction in the number of cases. In areas
like elbows, right ankle and right foot there was no change in the percentage and in the
regions of the basin and right knee there was a slight increase in the percentage of cases of
pain or discomfort. It was concluded that the practice of Lian Gong promotes extremely
positive effects in relation to musculoskeletal pains, especially in the region of the spine, and
their possible development in the workplace, at minimal cost, providing improvements in the
quality of life of participants.
