Resumo:
Water is a valuable asset that must be carefully preserved and exploited to meet all needs. There are places in the world where water is abundant and others where reality is totally contrary. In the northeast region of Brazil, water scarcity due to low rainfall or irregular rainfall distribution has been one of the limiting factors for the region's development.
inducing, for lack of options, the use of wastewater for various uses, including agriculture. In the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil, scarce surface water resources, particularly those near urban and periurban centers, have been experiencing an accelerated process of degradation as a result of urban population growth, lack of collection and treatment networks. sewage, the emergence of small industrial plants and ferti-irrigated green belts. Surface water quality studies in this region are critical because most water bodies are destined for multiple uses and receive "fresh" sewage (only 12.8% of the inhabitants have a sewage system and only 4% of the collected ones receive some treatment. ). More than 60% of child deaths are associated with waterborne diseases (PMCG, 1999).
