Resumo:
The present study was conducted in the Northwest of the State of Paraiba, Brazil,
among the parallels 06° 41* 34" and 06° 52" 32" S and the meridians 38° 02' 46" and
38° 22' 4 1 " W, including partially the municipal districts of Aparecida, Marizopolis, Sao
Francisco and Sousa, embracing 738,62 km2 approximately. The main objective was
to use the TM/Landsat-5 images and determination of superficial temperatures to
detect salt affected soils. In the visual interpretation a RGB composition of the bands
TM3, TM4, TM5 and TM6 (thermal) was used, aided by a Geographical Information
System (GIS) and field data. As final result, it a map was obtained where
approximately 34,15 % of the mapped area were soils affected salt.
