Abstract:
Tuberculosis or TB is an infectious disease caused by the bacillus of Koch, Mycobacteruim tuberculosis that affect multiple organs despite the prevailing form reaches the lungs causing severe infection. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the 22 countries that represent 80% of all reported cases the Brazil is in 15th position and began to consider TB as a priority since the year 2003 Prevention, early diagnosis and complete treatment are important for the effectiveness of this control. Thus the educational activities in health services are key strategies for effective disease control, especially civil society. In this perspective, the present study aimed to analyze the users' knowledge of a Basic Health Unit on Tuberculosis. This is an exploratory study with a quantitative approach, held in the city of UBSF Cuité-PB. The sample of work included 40 users of Basic Health Unit Raimunda Domingos de Moura. To collect data was structured through a form consisting of 21 questions interview. In the analysis, it was observed that 21.4% of men and 19.2% of women have had some contact with people with TB; 55% reported that tuberculosis is an infectious disease and 82.5% be prolonged cough as the main symptom of the disease. According to respondents 85.8% males said that disease transmission occurs through coughing and 46.1% females said that their transmission occurs through contaminated utensils and that a cure is achieved when the patient makes use of the appropriate medicine according to 80% of respondents. Regarding the information about the treatment of the disease approximately 66.7% said to be the healthcare professional responsible for guidance and for 87.5% of respondents tuberculosis is curable. Thus the study showed that certain group of respondents have a basic knowledge about the infection, but some points of this knowledge are still fragile, and in respect of transmission and cure of disease, requiring more work the issue of health education in the municipality. Thus, it is expected that this study will contribute significantly to the development of the actions of health education in primary care, using specific strategies in a way that suits every kind of audience, respecting social, demographic, economic conditions, beliefs, education level and among other basic requirements for conducting an effective and continuous work.
