The genital HPV infection is considered a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) more frequent
in the whole world, representing a major public health problem due to its high mortality and
transmissibility. In Brazil, this situation is changing gradually and the appearance of precursor
lesions is occurring increasingly early, due to increasingly early initiation of sexual activity
associated with other risk factors. This study aims to investigate the incidence rate of genital
infection by Human Papilloma Virus in the female population in the municipality of
Cajazeiras - PB, in 2009, to identify the age-range of the female population most affected by
the virus in the city of Cajazeiras to know the UBS who have higher numbers of cases of
HPV. This is a search for exploratory, descriptive and quantitative approach to documentary.
The sample comprised 1033 Pap tests at UBS in 2009. Data were collected in June 2010 and
were analyzed by a quantitative approach, through descriptive statistics were calculated where
the incidence rate of infection with papilloma. The results showed that the rate of
papillomavirus infection in the municipality of Cajazeiras / PB in the year 2009 was 0.045%
per 100 000 inhabitants. 1033 collections of Pap smear in 14 BHU were diagnosed 79 cases
of HPV. Regarding the age group most affected by the papilloma, there was a higher
percentage in women aged between 25 and 29, who had higher rates of infection. The UBS
showed that most cases of HPV was UBS St. Joseph / PAPS followed by Jose Leite Rolim. In
contrast appears UBS Higino Days no cases diagnosed. It is concluded that the municipality
to reduce the problem needs to develop some actions, like putting the reach of women exams
and educational activities, to monitor women who have HPV positive diagnoses and to
develop actions to motivate them to undertake the examination . Therefore, it is necessary to
establish and / or implementation of effective programs, effective and permanent health
services.
