For this,a methodological approach as followed: qualitative and quantitative research approach, participant observation, free listing technique, semi-structured interviews and analysis of patent documents present in the database of the INPI. The study revealed that the most prevalent families in patent documents were:, Fabaceae, Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, and Zingberaceae. This result allows us to conclude that:Although Brazil has a fairly representative flora, some regions of the country; little participates as a depository for patent, which reveals the lack of information of the Brazilian population on the issue of intellectual property and process application for a patent.
