The work occupies a very important in the life of every human being of all, it is through the
work activities that man acquires its means of survival for their socialization and even to
establish their physical and mental health. Working in a Intensive Care Unit ( ICU ) requires
professional attention , think fast and act safely , nursing professionals working in the ICU
suffer from the demand at work , emergency situations , occupational hazards and has even
met with a major challenge: follow promptly and innovative spirit to the continuous evolution
of technology and at the same time , listening sufferings , sorrows and frustrations of those
who are under their care . This study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of nursing
professionals working in the intensive care unit according to the five areas of Quality of Life
Scale Flanagan ( EQVF ) and to identify sociodemographic and occupational factors that may
interfere quality of life of these professionals . This is a cross-sectional study of exploratory
and descriptive, with a quantitative approach . The study was conducted in the Intensive Care
Unit of the Regional Hospital of Cajazeiras using two data collection instruments : a semi-
structured questionnaire regarding demographic and related socio occupational characteristics
, and a second with the Quality of Life Scale Flanagan , applied within 10 to 28 February
2014. the study revealed that 74 % of participants are female , aged 20 to 30 years, with 43 %
married, 43 % single and 14 % divorced , 74 % of professionals possess complete technical
course and 26 % completed college . By analyzing EQVF found a score of 87.5 points ,
whereas the maximum score reaches 105 points , we conclude that the sample surveyed are
satisfied with their QOL . The lowest score came in the dimension concerning the relationship
with others , in item Constitute family : having and raising children , with a score of 4 points ,
indicating that this individual is indifferent about its ability to keep your family . The overall
average was 11 points in the category referring to the time it provides for social , community
and civic activities demonstrating that respondents are least satisfied with time for social
activities need to average 5.5 points . It was found that professionals working in the ICU of
the Hospital Regional de Cajazeiras were relatively satisfied with their quality of life, though
they state uncertainty to maintain his family in comfort.
