Abstract:
The present study purpose to analyze the positive and negative impacts caused on the socioeconomic life of family farmers who provide food to higher education institutions in the city of Sousa - PB. The theories used were based on agroecology, family farming, and programs aimed at directly benefiting the family farmer, including PRONAF (The National Program for Strengthening Family Farming), PAA (Food Acquisition Program) and especially the PNAE (National School Meals Program). The methodology came from a qualitative research approach, research character: analytical, data collection: questionnaires, research method: deductive, research subject: family farmer, type of research: descriptive and exploratory. The results indicated the social and economic effects that caused in the life of these family farmers in face of public purchases, and the lack of information of these farmers about the federal government programs that aims to benefit them. It concluded that public purchases caused a considerable increase in income in the lives of these farmers, generating a positive economic and social impact and that the vast majority are aware of the PNAE, but more than half of the participants do not know the rules of hiring, or they know very little. It can said that the information does not reach the family farmer, a factor that still hinders their access to programs that benefit them so much.
