Resumo:
Concern about the health of the child arises since the dawn of mankind , when
the figure of the parents had total control over the children , which in turn allowed them
to kill , sell, expose newborns , or cause such acts as : abortion and infanticide . In the
mid- seventeenth century began the first attempts to protect the rights of the child , and
then comes the term - Childcare primarily focused on aspects of prevention and health
promotion , acts to keep the child healthy growth to ensure their full and development (
Almeida , 2005) . However , only in the early twentieth century came the first public
health policies in Brazil , which currently have in your primary care subsidy program in
Family Health , recognized as the Family Health Strategy . In this context , within the
programs prioritized by the ESF , there is the Childcare aimed at children 0-5 years old,
and the nurse has the primary responsibility for implementation of actions to assist the
health of the child . With this study aims to identify the main difficulties reported by
nurses to perform the Childcare Strategy in Family Health in a city of Paraiba
backwoods . Methodologically , the study addresses is an exploratory - descriptive
research type , and field with quantitative and qualitative approach . Being carried out
with 15 nurses from the ESF in the municipality of Sousa - PB . We used a semi-
structured questionnaire applied during the month of August 2013. Quantitative data
were presented in tables and discussed in the light of the literature on thematic and
qualitative data were used content analysis . It is noteworthy that the research was based
on the rules of the National Health Council ( CNS ) , by Resolution No. 196, dated
October 10, 1996 . It is considered as relevant for the research topic is very important to
children's health and at the same time for the entire health team Family Health Unit , as
well as contribute to greater appreciation of the query childcare performed by nurses . It
was noted that nurses like and perform Childcare , though not in the way advocated by
the Ministry of Health , because there are still many challenges that need to be
overcome in this activity , and that the effective action of the nurse contributes to a
better promotion and prevention disease with regard to the child's health care.
