Résumé:
The present research aims to analyze the memory and space of the town of São José de
Piranhas (in the state of Paraíba) in the 1970s and 1980s, thinking of it as a regular and
planned town that was born in the 30s of last century. We want to understand how the town
has combated its public problems, its social and growth challenges in this period, and also, to
understand how the inhabitants' experiences and social memory were built around these
experiences in the town. For the development of this research we have used studies by
historians, urbanists and thinkers such as Raquel Rolnik (2004), Nicolau Sevcenko (1998),
Maria Stella Bresciani (1981), Walter Benjamin (1985-1991) and others, considering that the
theories promote understandings, explanations and reflections when examining a
documentation about the reality that we have studied. The methodology used in the
discussions and the chosen cut are based on documentary sources - Photographs, meeting
minutes from the Aurelio Cavalcante City Council, found in a specific temporality that
delimits our cut. We will also use oral history such as interviews with the inhabitants,
understanding that they are the actors who elaborate and recreate their experiences and
dreams in this town.
