Resumo:
Leprosy is an infectious disease - contagious, compulsory notification, disabling, high
infectivity and low pathogenicity. It is caused by Mycobacterium leprae, which has
affinity for peripheral nerves and skin tissue, characterized - if for neural and changes
in sensation. It is transmitted from individual untreated multibacillary for what is likely.
For operational purposes, the condition is classified as multibacillary and
paucibacillary, presenting as clinical forms: lepromatous, borderline, tuberculoid and
indeterminate. The classification is done based operating by the number of injuries to
up to five paucibacillary lesions, above five, multibacillary. Hansen brings stigma and
prejudice of its historical evolution, based on religious beliefs and compulsory
isolation, gradually ideas that have been addressed with the introduction of MDT
default, causing the carrier of the disease can live in family and social environment,
to be an important epidemiological problem, was constructed using data provided by
the municipal health Cajazeiras - PB, through its surveillance department, an
analysis of reported leprosy cases in the period 2008-2012.
