In Brazil, food and nutrition insecurity affects millions of people, being more prone to this condition the families residing in the countryside. Considering the complexity of the concept of food and nutrition security and its various determinants, the study aimed to analyze the situation of food and nutritional insecurity of families living in different rural areas of the municipality of Cuité-PB. We conducted a cross-sectional study representative for the rural area with 114 households interviewed, where a questionnaire was used to assess the socio-demographic characteristics, apart from participation in government programs, food production, food consumption, along the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale and benchmarking measures of height and weight. Statistical analysis was performed according to dimension of food security and nutrition, stratifying households into three regions due to significant territorial differences between them: Region 1 is the area with better access to urban area, Region 2 is comprised of locations with difficult access and Region 3 is the area of greatest distance from the urban center. There was a high prevalence of food insecurity and nutrition in three rural regions of the county, but the region 1 has better situation and region 2 more precarious. The social risk families is enhanced by other features revealed in different ways for each region as the dimensions of access to food and biological use of food, with income, type of housing and sanitation conditions. In all regions there are families who are dedicated to planting and breeding, the difference between them relates to the fate of production, either for sale or for consumption. Nutritional status was revealed with a high percentage of excess weight and lack of malnutrition among adults, however, there are distinct characteristics in food consumption regions. Given this, it was observed in rural areas of the municipality of Cuité the problem of food insecurity and nutritional but with different
characteristics in each region. The model analyzed in this study are an important means of analyzing the situation of food and nutritional insecurity in regions, contributing to a better understanding of the dynamics of the rural municipality.
