Feeding more than a biological necessity has become more and more a reflection of the socio-economic profile in which the population is inserted being a factor influenced by socioeconomic and demographic profile, the conditions of access to adequate food, education level, between others. In Brazil a significant portion of the population does not have access to adequate food, reflection of social vulnerability and poverty. Thus, improving the income can be seen as a potentially powerful tool in ensuring access as a whole, may be justified by one of the most limiting social factors in this regard. Thus, we question what are the differences in feeding adults from families with different income levels and according to their condition of access to the Bolsa Família Program. This is a cross-sectional study in urban and rural municipality of Cuité-PB, which used a food frequency questionnaire (77 foods) and analyzed aspects of frequency, variety, and consumption of processed foods, protectors and protein. The results show a monotonous foods for both groups and reinforce the improvement of food consumption as a function of income increase when comparing the groups of vulnerable families holders and not GMP holders. They also reveal that the standard of food is not only related to income consumption, however, reinforces the importance of social programs of income transfer in the fight against poverty and in the exercise of the Human Right to Adequate Food especially when combined with other actions to encourage to food production and health promotion for risk groups.
