Resumen:
This work is the result of a reflective and theoretical study of the connections and
dissimilarities between the historical and literary narratives, that is, the moments of
similarities and differences between their discursive modalities. Having as a source of
research the novel The Dam Sousense writer Ignez Mariz first published in 1937 by the
publisher José Olympio in Rio de Janeiro. The novel brings in its narrative details very
important on the construction of the dam of Saint Mary (hence the name of the work), in
Sousa region in the high backlands of Paraiba, through the action of the characters,
among which we can list the family history Zé Mariano and owner Mariquinha migrants
sertanejos the time. Indeed, through the analysis and interpretation of this novel
regionalist we can highlight the distinctive symbols of historical fact, including the
practices and women's daily experiences in Paraíba hinterland in the first decades of the
twentieth century. In fact, the novel presents historical and social elements, visible
through the effect of the likelihood and mimesis function, ie imitation of reality.
