Résumé:
This research aims to discuss the case of the death of Jovelina Gomes, in 1943, in what was
then called Vila Canaã, currently Uiraúna - PB. Following a social historiographical current
work sought to discuss through oral histories and criminal proceedings, the issue that involved
the death of the young woman, trying to analyze gender relations involved, given that this is a
likely crime of passion disclosed by "stories"reported by the population through the memories
built over past reports from generation to generation. Jovelina was a teacher and lived alone in
Canaã, was murdered by Francisco Chagas de Morais, known as Chiquinho André, known
and frequenter of their social networks. We attempted through oral reports (interview) of
people who lived at the time and that somehow were related to the girl, trace the history that
surrounds his death. Subsequently, the research develops from the analysis of the criminal
proceedings concerning the case. Therefore, we analyzed this documentation in order to
discuss the Jovelina life path that was so striking to the people of that village, thinking the
various moments of the construction of multiple identities prepared for it. We have analyzed
the identity around being a teacher in that context as well as the social and cultural context
that Jovelina lived and how it was important to think about women's behavior in the 1930s
and 1940s in Paraíba.
