História e memória de mãe Burrego: a parteira de Itaporanga – PB entre as décadas de1930 e 1960.

Abstract

This work explores the relationship between collective historical memory and oblivion, as a field and an important tool for recovering and valuing relevant historical figures. We analyze how the history and memory of Mãe Burrego, as one of the region's main midwives, marked the history of the first decades of the 20th century in the city of Itaporanga and underwent a process of "erasure." In this sense, the research aims to understand the phenomenon of the "erasure" of historical figures, especially female ones, in certain spaces, considering the causes and consequences of this process, as in the case of the subject of this study, while also bringing her story and legacy to light. As theoretical frameworks, we will engage with Social and Cultural History through the works of Le Goff, Pollak, Sousa, and Halbwachs, in order to understand the historical and social context that led to Mãe Burrego's oblivion. We use oral history methodology to focus on the legacy left by Maria Tertulina Conceição, known as Mãe Burrego, and combine it with bibliographical and methodological references relevant to the intended case study.
