Os agrotóxicos e a agricultura familiar: um estudo acerca da comunidade Lagoa de Cascavel, Gado Bravo, Paraíba.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of pesticides in the family farming community of Lagoa de Cascavel, located in the municipality of Gado Bravo, in the immediate geographic region of Campina Grande, Paraíba state, Paraíba. The qualitative and quantitative research was conducted through a literature review and field interviews with eight farming families. The aim was to understand their profile, the frequency of pesticide use, and their management practices. A historical review of agriculture was also conducted, relating it to the current scenario and comparing the productive dynamics of family farming with that of agribusiness. The results demonstrate that the interviewees have used pesticides, primarily to control unwanted vegetation. Despite their concern about the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), some reported symptoms after application, highlighting risks to health and the environment. It is concluded that alternative practices, such as agroecology, can help reduce dependence on these products and promote healthier and more sustainable agricultural production.
