Impactos geopolíticos e geoeconômicos do BRICS no Consórcio Nordeste: estratégias de desenvolvimento e cooperação regional.

Abstract

The recent expansion of the BRICS and its growing international influence have triggered geopolitical and geoeconomic shifts that directly affect regional development strategies and the paradiplomatic practices of subnational actors. This article examines the impacts of these transformations on the Northeast Consortium, focusing on regional cooperation and international engagement between 2019 and 2025. It is hypothesized that the Consortium’s rapprochement with the emerging bloc, particularly through investments and strategic partnerships, initiates a new subnational dynamic in Brazil with the potential to transform the historical logic of economic dependence in the Northeast into a trajectory of strategic cooperation aligned with its political particularities. The qualitative research is based on an integrative literature review combining academic and institutional sources. The main contribution lies in connecting global geopolitics with regional governance, expanding the debate on the role of Brazil’s Northeast within the multipolar configuration led by BRICS. The findings highlight the Consortium’s strengthened international articulation, especially through paradiplomacy and engagement with BRICS countries, notably China, pointing to new possibilities for regional development made viable through emerging partnerships and multilateral investments.
